Mechanical Design Engineer - Plant Farley
Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing tactical mechanical engineering support for Southern Nuclear at Plant Vogtle. Tactical support can include both design services to support day-to-day operation of the plant as well as supporting emergent plant issues. Design services include preparation/coordination of designs, calculations, drawings, cost estimates, and schedules for plant modifications and retrofits. Emergent issue support includes supporting emergent plant issues through troubleshooting, evaluating as-found conditions for design & licensing basis impact, or performing evaluations to support the day-to-day operation of the plant. Work involves field walkdowns as well as office work. The position will be filled at an exempt level commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications.
Education Requirements:
1. ABET accredited Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (not Engineering Technology) is required.
2. Mechanical Engineering degree is desired.
3. Professional Engineer registration is desired.
Experience Requirements:
1. At least 5 years' experience in some or all the following areas is desired:
2. Previous Nuclear Power Plant design/retrofit experience.
3. Familiarity with design engineering processes.
4. Working knowledge of mechanical design codes and requirements.
5. Working knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding commercial nuclear power plant design.
6. Experience with development and maintenance of design-related calculations.
7. Experience with system troubleshooting, problem-solving, and causal analysis.

2. Proven organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
3. Capable of working efficiently and effectively across multiple departments/organizations.

6. Basic understanding of design/design configuration, project management, maintenance, and procurement processes associated with large industrial plant equipment.
7. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, specifically WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT.

1. Proficient in the use of Computer-aided drafting software (AutoCAD, Inventor, etc.) and database management software (Documentum, etc.).

Other: The successful candidate must meet background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements. Selected candidate must live within seventy-five minutes of Plant Farley’s Emergency Operations Facility for emergency response availability.
