AWS Game-Based Learning Products is looking for a Technical Artist to join a fast-paced, startup-minded innovation team where fun is an integral part of your job. Joining our team, you will collaborate with a team of architects, artists, designers, engineers, and testers responsible for the conception, development, and operations of highly technical game-based learning solutions that rely on extensive use of hands-on labs, virtual environments, and interactive simulations to get customers to develop practical skills using AWS services.As a Technical Artist, you will play a key role in shaping the visual and technical quality of our game-based learning experiences. This role focuses on developing and optimizing shaders, materials, VFX, lighting, and 3D assets, ensuring a balance between aesthetics and performance. You will help streamline art pipelines, customize assets, and optimize environments to create immersive and efficient experiences. Working closely with designers, engineers, and artists, you will contribute to level assembly, performance optimization, and workflow improvements. By aligning visuals with learning objectives, you will help deliver engaging, interactive simulations that enhance practical AWS training.Key job responsibilitiesDrive our game tech stack by implementing design best practices and supporting engineers to ensure high-quality game production;Develop and optimize tools, shaders, and pipelines to enhance workflows for artists, designers, and engineers;Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to define technical strategies and ensure seamless integration of art and engineering;Make data-driven decisions by leveraging industry trends, telemetry, and user feedback to improve performance and visuals;Create and implement high-quality assets, materials, and VFX while ensuring consistency with the artistic direction;Support level assembly and optimization by refining environments, lighting, and scene performance.A day in the lifeYou will work with engineering, design, and product stakeholders closely on a day-to-day basis. You will contribute to the production of multiple games and features and collaborate with other learning products teams (e.g.: AWS SkillBuilder, AWS Labs, AWS Jam, Exam Prep). You will solve, learn, and mentor team members on web-scale challenges, distributed systems problems, and game development best practices. You will regularly review technical work with peers, stakeholders, and leadership.About the teamAWS Game-Based Learning team members are spread across the US, Canada, and Brazil. Our mission is to build learning products that use game thinking principles. We combine learning strategies with game technologies and theories to develop appealing knowledge transfer experiences that target customer needs.Minimum Requirements3+ years of Games Industry (supporting title Development, Release, or Live Ops) experience;2+ years of experience as a Technical Artist for real-time content;A portfolio showing artwork and designs that you have personally created, both for your shipped projects and personal/unshipped projects;Experience with 2D and 3D art, modeling, and/or animation software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Blender, Maya, 3D Studio Max, Houdini, or other industry-equivalent tooling;Ability to communicate in English and Portuguese (verbal and written);Experience with game engines such as Unreal, Godot, and preferably Unity;Experience with at least one modern programming language such as Python, Java, C++, or C#;Experience with animation workflows, shaders, low poly optimization, and game math (linear algebra & geometry);Experience with shader graph for VFX, color theory, lighting, modeling, and UV texturing of a 3D object.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
