About the Role:
Wembley College seeks an inspiring and passionate Music Teacher to join our dynamic team. This full-time position is for a dedicated individual with a love for music and a desire to foster creativity in middle and high school students. As a key member of the Arts Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive music curriculum, leading performances, and guiding students through their musical journey.
Key Responsibilities:
Music Instruction & Curriculum Development:
* Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum in alignment with Cambridge education standards.
* Teach music theory, history, and aural skills to students of varying skill levels.
* Provide vocal and instrumental instruction to ensure students gain proficiency in their chosen instruments or voice.
* Cultivate a passion for music by exposing students to diverse musical styles, genres, and historical contexts.
* Integrate innovative teaching methods and technology into lessons to enhance music education.
Performance & Extracurricular Activities:
* Direct and manage school choirs and ensembles, preparing them for concerts, competitions, and school events.
* Organise and lead musical productions, concerts, and other school-wide musical events.
* Encourage and mentor students pursuing external music exams such as ABRSM, Trinity, or Rockschool.
* Play an active role in planning and executing cultural events, including the annual music festivals, school musicals, and choir/ensemble tours.
Collaboration & School Engagement:
* Collaborate with other academic departments to integrate music into interdisciplinary projects.
* Work closely with school leadership to enhance Wembley College’s cultural and artistic programmes.
* Engage parents and the school community through concerts, musical showcases, and events.
* Provide coaching for students preparing for performances, competitions, or music exams.
Administration & Professional Development:
* Maintain student records, including progress reports and assessment data.
* Oversee the management and care of the school’s music resources, instruments, and equipment.
* Stay updated on the latest music education trends, teaching methodologies, and developments within the Cambridge curriculum.
* Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to staff meetings and school initiatives.
Requirements:
* Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
* Experience: Previous experience teaching music at the middle or high school level is an advantage. Experience teaching an additional subject or language is also an advantage.
* Skills: Piano proficiency and at least one other musical instrument. Conducting and vocal coaching experience are beneficial.
* Technology Skills: Familiarity with music technology and digital recording/composition tools (e.g., GarageBand, MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale, or other DAWs).
* Personal Attributes: Strong classroom management, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to inspire and engage students of all musical abilities.
* Other: SACE registration is a requirement.
