Job Title: Hazardous Waste Supervisor
Season: Austral Summer (October 2025 - February 2026)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate with the Hazardous Waste Manager to prioritize department tasks.
2. Ensure all incoming employees receive proper training and maintain a log of this information.
3. Work with other departments to ensure efficient pickup and processing of hazardous waste.
4. Supervise daily tasks and coordinate with the team.
5. Assist in writing mid-season and post-season evaluations for the crew.
6. In the absence of the Hazardous Waste Manager, attend weekly meetings.
7. Conduct community waste briefs or informational sessions as needed.
8. Troubleshoot issues and escalate them to the Hazardous Waste Manager when necessary.
9. Pick up hazardous waste and associated paperwork from various departments on station, ensuring accuracy on the Hazardous Waste Identification Sheet (HWIS).
10. Process waste by marking, labeling, weighing, and storing drums or items in a shipping container. Update the HWIS form as required.
11. Daily use of a drum dolly, pallet jack, banding equipment, power tools, shovels, and other tools.
12. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly for various tasks.
13. Perform qualitative testing on items (pH testing, flash point testing, etc.).
14. Laboratory packing.
15. Operate the M4K (Pickle) safely.
16. Accurately input data into the hazardous waste tracking database.
17. Verify the quality of shipping containers and address discrepancies immediately.
18. Follow Job Hazard Analyses (JHA's) and update them as needed.
19. Collaborate with the Solid Waste Department as necessary.
20. During Vessel and Tanker Operations, work 12-hour shifts, either day or night shift.
21. Active member of the Spill Response Team:
22. Be on call 24-hours a day for approximately one week each month.
23. Provide manual labor (shoveling) if needed.
24. Write spill reports, if applicable.
25. The position requires constant physical activity, including bending, lifting, and carrying 50-70 pounds, reaching, and gripping.
26. Able to work in a diverse team environment.
27. Maintain self-motivation in physically challenging and atypical work environments.
28. Able to maintain flexibility and a positive attitude in dynamic, fast-paced work settings.
29. Support Operations Division metrics (as provided by supervisor).
30. Comply with ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals.
31. Document compliance with these divisions as necessary.
32. Work towards achieving ASC goals and contractual commitments.
33. Maintain a safe workplace and prioritize safety above all else.
34. Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
1. At least 2 years of experience in Waste Management (or equivalent seasons worked in Antarctica).
2. College degree (additional 2 years of experience will substitute).
3. Strong computer software experience.
4. Able to lift 50 pounds consistently and wear a respirator.
5. Valid Driver's License and Passport.
6. Able to pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. 1 year of experience in Hazardous Materials shipping/characterization or reporting, or 2 years of Environmental remediation.
2. 1 year of supervisory experience.
3. Quarter course in General Chemistry.
4. College degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science.
5. OSHA HazWOPER 40-Hour certification, current.
6. Familiarity with power tools and machinery.
7. Equipment operating experience.

College degree (2 additional years of experience will substitute).
