VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY: SIMULTANEOUS TRANSLATION & INTERPRETATION TEAM
UCL MAL is calling for participants to join the Simultaneous Translation and Interpretation Team for our Experiments in Collaborative Heritage project this April in Brasilia, working in collaboration with Guarani and Kaiowá Indigenous communities in Brazil. This project takes place in partnership with the British Museum’s Endangered Material Knowledge Programme (EMKP) and UCL Knowledge Exchange and Innovation.
We invite applicants who have experience in Simultaneous Translation and Interpretation between English and Portuguese to join the UCL MAL team during their visit to Brazil in April 2025, to participate in this exciting collaboration between anthropologists, international artists, and indigenous communities in Brazil. Following a five-year project of remote work, members of the UCL MAL team will be visiting Brazil to participate in the Acampamento Terra Livre, an indigenous-led gathering in Brasilia. We are looking for interpreters and simultaneous translators to accompany the team during the event, and dedicate 2-4 hours between the 6th -11th of April.
Participants will gain practical experience in diverse areas, including:
* Simultaneous Translation and Interpretation
* Translating culturally-sensitive topics
* Working with indigenous communities
* Working with international artists
* Participating in an international academic project
Participants will be expected to participate in-person in Brasilia, and commit to 2-4 hour slots in our team activity timetable. At the end of the project, all participants will receive a UCL MAL certificate confirming the activities they engaged in and outlining the hours worked, as well as the impact that they helped produce. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any financial compensation for participation.
To apply, please email us briefly introducing yourself, outlining your skills, and telling us why you would like to participate. Please email us at info@uclmal.com by Thursday 13th of March.
