A key goal is to manage senior relationships with local, state, and federal authorities and facilitate IFC climate business, positioning IFC's leading role in accelerating low-carbon, resilient, and sustainable growth for the private sector in emerging markets and developing economies.Duties and Accountabilities:In close collaboration with the Regional Director, the Senior Country Officer of Brazil, IFC Climate Business Department, and the World Bank Country team in Brazil:Develop a detailed stakeholder engagement plan, including prioritizing key actors, crafting key messages, suggesting level of engagement, return on engagement, timelines, and responsibilities.Organize meetings to build and strengthen relationships with stakeholders in Brazil (e.g., Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Finance, COP30 Presidency, COP30 Operating Committee, Para and Belem government Authorities, UNFCCC and other UN organizations, private sector clients in the region, other strategic delivery partners such as associations, CSOs, academia, etc.
), to position IFC's role, engagement, and perspective on climate change and sustainable development.Map out, analyze, and identify specific engagements and events with the Government of Brazil, clients, partners, and other stakeholders, on climate finance and sustainability, before and during COP.
This includes identifying opportunities to highlight existing or create new IFC/WBG innovative climate finance solutions and projects.Engage with senior government officials at the Federal level in Brasilia (Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Finance, President of COP30, Secretary of COP30, and others) and at the state level in Para (Government of Para and the Government of the city of Belem).
This includes planning and executing a strategy to promote effective engagement of IFC staff with these senior relationships to achieve the best strategy possible for COP30 and subsequent results and projects.Provide strategic analysis of various opportunities and costs to deliver specific initiatives before and during COP30 including market, political, and reputational perspectives.Coordinate and convene efforts (e.g., reports, events, partnerships, projects) with teams across IFC to bring an 'all of IFC' engagement to COP30, and foster cooperation across the broader WBG.
This includes coordinating with leads of WBG Amazon-related initiatives and organizing and/or supporting workshops for IFC staff and government officials to build capacity on key topics such as the Amazon landscape, Brazil's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and related investment and advisory business opportunities.In collaboration with the country office, keep IFC regional vice-president, and IFC regional directors, and other relevant parties, updated on COP30 developments.Support advance team planning for walk-throughs and preparation related to all VIP events.Selection CriteriaMaster's degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Business Administration, or a related discipline.Minimum 8 - 10 years of relevant experience in stakeholder engagement, government relations, sustainability, climate initiatives, or a related field.Proven ability to build and maintain high-level relationships with senior government officials at both the federal and local levels, including the Ministry of Environment, the Secretary of COP30, the Ministry of Finance, and key stakeholders in Brasília, Pará State, and the city of Belém.Exceptional relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.Strong organizational and logistical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and the ability to collaborate across groups under pressure.Outstanding writing and verbal communication skills in both English and Portuguese, Spanish proficiency is desirable.Deep interest in and knowledge of climate, nature initiatives, sustainability, and emerging trends in Brazil and the broader region.Ability to remain composed under pressure and thrive in high-stakes political environments.World Bank Group Core CompetenciesWe are proud to be an equal opportunity and inclusive employer with a dedicated and committed workforce, and do not discriminate based on gender, gender identity, religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability.Learn more about working at the World Bank and IFC, including our values and inspiring stories.Note: The selected candidate will be offered a one-year appointment, renewable at the discretion of the World Bank Group, and subject to a lifetime maximum ET appointment of three years.
