Job Summary
We are seeking a Department Manager to oversee department functions, associates, and meet production standards for receiving or shipping departments assigned. This role will handle daily issues and projects under the direction of the Operations Manager or Campus Lead. The successful candidate will work with all campus departments, Transportation, and Inventory Management to ensure timely and safe movement of product.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Supervise day-to-day activities of the department and assigned staff.
* Supervise associate performance through performance planning, coaching, appraisal, and disciplinary efforts.
* Assist in hiring, training, and developing of all new and existing associates.
* Work with applicable departments to ensure efficient and accurate flow of inventory in and out of the campus.
* Collaborate with business partners and unload services to ensure they are fully staffed and supporting campus operations in a safe manner.
* Observe department staffing daily and adjust where needed.
* Verify daily that associates are on Labor Management assignments.
* Hold departmental meetings as expected.
* Supervise associates' time and attendance.
* Efficiently lead the associates of the department toward attaining their individual and combined goals through hands-on guidance.
* Help meet department operational and budget goals.
* Provide accurate reporting information to campus Leadership and others.
* Provide project/task leadership as assigned.
* Make recommendations for modifications to procedures or processes impacting their work group or center that will maximize efficiency, productivity, and reduce costs.
* Ensure compliance with company standards in the areas of accuracy, safety, and productivity.
Knowledge and Skills
* Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and supporting systems (i.e., RF & Voice Selection).
* Familiarity/experience in a distribution environment.
* Basic understanding of business financial reports and information.
* Knowledge of company standard practices.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs.
Abilities
* Supervise or manage multiple tasks and shift priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Communicate and complete required record-keeping functions.
* Articulate and align associates with department and business goals.
* Work a varied schedule to perform assigned duties.
* Ability to work in a temperature-controlled environment (-5 degree to 90+ degree Fahrenheit) for long periods.
* Work in a warehouse environment with varying conditions (i.e., cool temperatures, concrete floors, powered industrial trucks).
* Read and understand written and numeric product identifiers.
Education
* High School Education or equivalent.
* Certified on powered industrial equipment where applicable.
Experience
* 1-3 years of experience in a distribution warehouse environment.
