Job Description
Carmeuse has an open position in the Minas Gerais state of Brazil. Ideally, this person should live in Minas Gerais and be able to travel mainly within Brazil at least 50% of the time. Carmeuse is active in the Arcos and Formiga regions, approximately 3 hours from Belo Horizonte.
In the future, there may be opportunities for additional support roles elsewhere in Brazil and South America.
The position will work as a member of the Carmeuse Brazilian Team with strong technical support from Americas (NA) and Group Geology Departments. Experience in carbonates is preferred, but not mandatory, as internal technical training will be provided.
Main Responsibilities
* Field mapping to support prospecting activities and support of current suppliers;
* Developing 3D models of the structure and chemistry of carbonate ore deposits;
* Planning and supervision of core drilling projects, geophysical surveys, and occasional hydrologic studies;
* Providing input and support in the development of mine plans;
* Ensuring that the quarries and mines can supply the required quality and quantities of limestone to satisfy our customers by the best integration of geology into mine plans;
* Supports Sales and Marketing by advising on the translation of available reserves in the market;
* Prospects for new deposits and reports on the geological portion of Due Diligence assignments;
* Performs additional duties as assigned.
Requirements and Skills
* Enthusiasm for field mapping;
* 2-5 years experience, with a bachelor's degree in Geology (Master's Degree is preferable);
* Fluency in oral and written English;
* Fluency in Portuguese;
* Ability to perform frequent domestic travel, possess a valid driver's license;
* Occasional international travel;
* Strong skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
* Strong reporting, presentation skills, and ability to synthesize information well;
* Ability to work effectively at various levels of the organization and across organizational boundaries.
Technical Knowledge Required by the Position
* Experience in fieldwork and mapping;
* Familiarity with core drilling, logging, sampling, and testing of carbonate rocks;
* Familiarity with geophysical prospecting desirable but not mandatory;
* Familiarity with, or aptitude for learning specialized software packages commonly used in the mining industry.
