Job Summary
In this role, you'll explore the rich Brazilian biodiversity in the Atlantic Forest biotope.
First, you'll be responsible of the bioprospection in the forest and plant identification via bibliography research or university collaborations.
Then, extract the volatile molecules by using extractive and purification techniques.
And finally, you'll oversee the analytical characterization and coordinate the olfactive evaluation with perfumers.
You'll manage in full autonomy the extraction equipment and the analytical lab.
The bioprospection mission will be organized with the local partner and experts in the Atlantic forest.
Responsibilities:
- Build a strong bibliography on aromatic & perfumed plant from Brazilian flora
- Select and prioritize the most promising raw material based on bibliography, expert discussions and technical knowledge
- Use current technologies to process new ingredients
- Realize an analytical characterization of the extracts with classic tools (GC/MS, HPLC/MS)
- Manage the evaluation step with perfumers
- Settle a clear communication with R&D team in France and build a communication tool to present the new extracts
- Make sure that the new ingredients have a sourcing security, are safe, and stable, and deliver a consistent quality
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a broad scientific and technical background in vegetal biology, vegetal biochemistry, agriculture, process extracts
- Is available for a long time spent abroad (about 30% of the working time) in wild areas (forest).
Is motivated to discover new environments and curiosity toward foreign cultures
- Experience independently planning and executing research, including presenting results and planning next steps
- Manage strategic projects (actors, quality, costs, timing) requiring multi-competences (scientific, technical, management, communication) including several actors (private companies, universities, IFF R&D centers, LMR departments )
- Speak Portuguese and English fluently (Spanish and French is a plus)
- Knoloedge in Brazilian Environmental Legislation is desirable
