The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (SCTPO) coordinates transportation planning for Brevard County, FL among local governments, businesses, and the community with the mission to plan a transportation system that enhances quality of life and economic development by engaging the community.
The Community Engagement Coordinator performs skilled professional work in developing, implementing, and overseeing community engagement strategies to enhance public awareness and support for Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (SCTPO) initiatives. Under the direction of the Public Information and Outreach Manager, this role coordinates and leads outreach events, public workshops, and/or presentations on transportation safety initiatives. This role also oversees established SCTPO educational programs designed to promote safer driving, bicycling, and walking, and collaborates with internal and external partners to coordinate community engagement efforts. Additionally, the coordinator develops key messaging for safety campaigns, creates flyers and graphics for community outreach materials, and utilizes social media and digital media to engage the public.
Essential Functions:
Coordinates and leads outreach events, public workshops, and/or presentations on transportation safety initiatives, including annual events such as Walk, Bike, Roll to School Days and World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
Utilizes data and reports to develop strategic outreach plans, identifying and targeting key communities along the high injury network outlined in the SCTPO Vision Zero Action Plan.
Collaborates with internal and external partners, emphasizing partnerships with Brevard Public Schools (BPS), local jurisdictions, other transportation agencies, law enforcement, and modal partners.
Actively engages with the community and stakeholders by attending community events, health and safety fairs, and other public engagement opportunities to build relationships and raise awareness of transportation issues.
Develops and implements community outreach campaigns to educate and engage residents, community partners, and other stakeholders about road safety.
Coordinates and leads established SCTPO educational programs, monitoring and evaluating programs designed to promote safer driving, bicycling, and walking.
Collects and analyzes data to identify community needs before planning and implementing programs.
Facilitates collaborative processes to address transportation challenges and opportunities involving diverse community groups and stakeholders.
Identifies new opportunities for engaging the community in the region’s transportation planning process, focusing on underrepresented groups.
Develops and/or distributes educational and public outreach materials related to transportation planning, road safety, and alternative transportation options.
Utilizes social media and digital media to engage the public and promote traffic safety and transportation initiatives.
Develops key messaging for social media campaigns to reach target audiences and promote transportation initiatives.
Creates flyers and graphics for community outreach and education materials.
