Job Summary
The Software Engineer I in Test will implement automated testing in a continuous integration environment by working closely with developers, architects, subject matter experts and DevOps to ensure high test coverage and quality. The individual within the position should understand the Software Development Lifecycle, quality assurance methodologies, manual and automated testing techniques. Additionally, he/she is responsible for maintaining automation frameworks to be used for both UI and API automation.
Duties and Core Responsibilities
1. Use a BDD framework to implement test/user scenarios
2. Design, code and maintain automated scripts, functions/function libraries, database verification, and behavior and data-driven tests
3. Work with Agile team to reduce manual/repetitive tasks and assist with writing test automation cases
4. Follow best practices when developing automation code including comment documentation, maintainability, and data-driven development
5. Troubleshoot environmental set-up issues related to automation
6. Contribute to the improvement of testing methods, processes and deliverables
7. Design and develop reusable, automated tests in accordance with coding best practices
8. With the Agile team, provide accurate estimates for user stories and automation test efforts for each sprint
9. Partner with the Agile development team to deliver on commitments
10. Document, track, and report on product defects
11. Keep current with quality testing, trends, techniques, tools and processes
12. Participate in design reviews to ensure both functional and non-functional attributes are built in.
13. Participate in automation and manual test plan reviews and code reviews
14. Document automation solutions so they are easily understood and maintainable
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (or closely related field) and 6 months of experience in test automation and quality assurance.
2. Cumulative 6 months of experience in 3 of the below, which can be earned concurrently with or through education and training:
3. Experience using industry automation testing tools such as Selenium WebDriver, WATIR, SoapUI, Coded UI, Test Complete, QTP or Cucumber.
4. Experience with object-oriented programming language such as C# or Python.
5. Experience with SQL and Databases such as MS SQL.
6. Experience with API Testing using REST or GraphQL protocols.
7. Experience in white box and unit testing with automation framework such as MS Test, JUnit or NUnit.
8. Experience in testing web solutions across multiple platforms and browsers.
9. Experience with full software development life cycle and software engineering best practices.
10. Experience using versioning software, ADO or Git.
11. Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams concepts, including test-driven development (MSTest, xUnit, nUnit, JMeter).
12. Experience working in a SaaS environment preferred.
13. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and technologies in a highly multi-tasked environment.
14. Must be self-motivated and results driven, with attention to detail.
15. Strong desire to learn and grow.
16. Ability to work independently in a team environment.
17. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
18. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
