- An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, criminology or relevant social or political area with adequate focus on international maritime law, criminal justice and/or law enforcement issues is required.
A first-level university degree in similar fields and in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

- Work Experience
- A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible professional experience in a relevant military or naval service, law enforcement or in the fields of crime prevention, criminal justice and/or project / programme management related to maritime crime is required.
Work experience in issues related to the law of the sea is required.
Experience working with conflict and post conflict countries is required.
Solid work experience in field-based project/programme implementation and monitoring is required.
Work experience in programme/project management in the United Nations and/or other similar international organizations is desirable.
Work experience in managing a team in a regional or global context is desirable.
Work experience in designing and delivering training in the area of crime prevention and criminal justice is desirable.
Work experience with governmental or intergovernmental law enforcement, justice or border management institutions is desirable.
Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
- Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
For this position, fluency in English is required.
Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
