Job Description:
We are seeking a Mid-Level Cisco Network Technician to support the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) network in Diego Garcia. This role provides hands-on network administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance for Cisco-based infrastructure in a mission-critical environment. The ideal candidate will possess foundational networking knowledge, experience with Cisco devices, and the ability to work in a remote operational setting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Cisco network equipment, including switches, routers, firewalls, and VoIP systems.
* Monitor network performance, conduct routine inspections, and implement corrective actions to ensure high availability and optimal functionality.
* Manage and support network security devices, including firewalls and VPNs, in accordance with DoD cybersecurity policies.
* Assist in the implementation of network upgrades and new technologies to improve performance and security.
* Collaborate with system administrators and cybersecurity personnel to support Information Assurance (IA) compliance and Risk Management Framework (RMF) security controls.
* Document network configurations, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting procedures to maintain an accurate network topology.
* Provide technical support to end-users and resolve connectivity issues.
* Participate in on-call support and respond to network outages as required.
Required Qualifications:
* Current US Passport
* Current IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, etc.).
* A Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher-level certification.
* 3-5 years of hands-on experience in network administration, operations, and maintenance.
* Strong experience with Cisco networking equipment, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
* Proficiency in TCP/IP, VLANs, STP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and VoIP technologies.
* Familiarity with DoD network security requirements and best practices.
* Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues in an enterprise environment.
* Experience with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or Wireshark.
* Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
* Ability to work in a remote location with limited external support.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience working in military or DoD environments.
* Experience with VoIP and Unified Communications systems.
* Familiarity with DISA STIGs and DoD compliance requirements.
Physical, Work Environment & Conditions:
* Typical office environment.
* Must be able to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods.
* Occasional standing while working in server rooms or at patch panels.
* Must be able to lift and move moderately heavy equipment (e.g., routers, switches, servers) typically up to 30–50 pounds.
* Manual Dexterity required for connecting cables, configuring devices, and handling small tools or components.
* Must be able to view computer screens for long periods.
* Ability to distinguish color-coded cabling and indicator lights.
* Must be able to climb ladders or crawl in tight spaces for cable runs or equipment installation.
* May require walking between different buildings or workstations.
* Must be able to communicate clearly with technical teams and end-users.
* May need to hear alarms, server beeps, or equipment noises indicating issues.

* Schedule: Rotational shift work may be required to support 24/7 operations.
