Zappos is seeking a self-motivated Lead Merchandise Planner to own multiple business units to success through data-driven insights and assortment, category and brand strategy development and planning. In this role, you will play a critical part in maximizing sales, profitability, and inventory efficiency by developing detailed assortment plans, forecasts, and strategies. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Buying, Marketing, and Finance, you’ll ensure the right products are available at the right time, aligning with customer needs and business objectives.
The successful candidate is a results-oriented leader with a deep understanding of e-commerce dynamics, a passion for analyzing trends, and a proven ability to move beyond applying standard templates for solving problems. You will own and develop our product assortment strategy and inventory management with creative, innovative ideas that are translated into actionable insights for the business. You will own and present business insights to senior leadership and will develop tools and analysis that will drive growth and positively impact the broader merchandising organization.
Key job responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
1. Develop seasonal and annual strategies by category and vendor.
2. Build financial plans in accordance with merchandise strategies to maximize profitability.
3. Drive strategic decision making to achieve sales and inventory goals.
4. Own inventory health, open-to-buy, item-level forecasting, and assortment planning.
5. Optimize sales and inventory productivity through analysis and plans that drive high impact decision making.
6. Forecast financials and related operational metrics.
7. Develop reporting, driving a high standard for analytical excellence.
8. Develop price reduction and exit recommendations with pricing team.
9. Present analysis to senior leaders and suggest strategic shifts and actions based on findings.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Create projects that improve the efficiency of buying/planning systems, processes and procedures.
2. Partake in A/B testing of new tools and maintain owner mindset to deliver constructive feedback.
3. Train and develop team members.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. 5+ years of with Excel experience.
2. Bachelor's degree, or 5+ years of professional or military experience.
3. Experience working with complex data sets.
4. Experience communicating results to senior leadership.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Knowledge of statistics or other analytical techniques.
2. Experience leading process improvement, systems development, and project management.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $109,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
