This position will report to a data center campus.
The Manager of Construction, Latin America (LATAM) is a strategically significant role on the Americas Construction team dedicated to leading, mentoring, and coaching our Construction team building data centers in Latin America. You will lead a diverse and creative team solving fascinating problems constructing Amazon Data Centers. You will manage a fast-moving, intelligent team of professionals and the regional construction program delivering data center capacity to support Amazon’s existing data centers and future growth in Latin America.
Our Data Center Construction team owns and drives the construction life cycle from constructability, proposal development, bid analysis, award, to managing the onsite construction work.
The manager will be expected to dive deep and know construction management; inspire and think big about the construction management program; and support, grow, and nurture the team delivering efficient and sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems to our Customers.
The Manager of Construction will be responsible for:
- Hire and develop new Construction Managers and Project Engineers. Coach, mentor, and lead a large Construction Management team.
- Strategic and tactical management of construction capacity delivery within their region.
- Communicate and provide guidance to Finance during the development and execution of capital budgets.
- Coordinate with various teams supporting the data center development and launch.
- Develop and manage metrics quantifying performance within their region.
- Coordinate with Business Development on land and facility acquisition.
- Manage the safety, cost, and quality of the data center deliverable.
Ability to travel up to 50-75% internationally.
Additionally, must possess the following abilities:

- Ability and willingness to think creatively and build innovative solutions to reduce cost and duration with no impact on quality and reliability.
- Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify the project scope and present the justification to management in a high-level review.
Key job responsibilities
•Hiring, developing and managing teams responsible for all aspects of the entire data center life cycle construction starting with the due diligence, budgeting, site selection, permitting, design review, through daily construction oversight, and commissioning of completed facilities. You will be directly managing the construction projects.
•Direct interface with construction general contractors during the pre-construction, bidding, award, execution, and project closeout/punch list phases.
•Create construction Requests for Proposal (RFP’s) and Scopes of Work (SOW’s)
•Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals with detail and accuracy.
•Financial analysis and reporting.
•Construction project management for specific initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of our data centers.
•Constructability reviews of civil, structural, electrical and mechanical designs associated with the construction of new data centers or optimization of existing data centers.
•Construction document management including submittal review, RFI’s, change orders, and invoicing.
•Total project quality including the assisting with commissioning and integrated system testing and oversight of the execution of the project.
•Concurrently managing multiple Regions and projects including new data center building and capital improvement projects associated with existing data centers.
•Operational support of installed facilities including review of procedures, best practices, and maintenance initiatives.
•Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
•Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis associated with equipment failures.
•Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
•Travel to construction job sites across the Americas: (Canada, US and LATAM) supporting new construction and new product delivery for AWS Construction Management team.
•Ability to meet travel, entry & re-entry requirements for United States, Canada & LATAM countries
•Travel required: 50%-75%.
•Possess current relevant passport and ability to obtain visas for travel to international project locations.
•Ability to meet entry requirements for regions and countries outside of assigned office location.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Construction Management of experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale power distribution/generation systems; mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) plants – including cooling systems.
•General contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution. Including leading pre-construction efforts.
•Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, NETA, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA
• Experience leading large contractor support teams; teams consisting of contractors, not direct employees.
•Experience developing, monitoring and maintaining mission critical project schedules; master schedules and micro schedules. Including proficiency with logic ties, constraints, critical path, float, lag, WBS, successors and predecessors.
•Advanced English
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Understand electrical engineering best practices including breaker coordination studies, switch gear sequence of operation, and NEC code.
•Understand mechanical engineering principles for cooling systems.
•Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers.
•Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms.
•Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, NETA, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
•Ability to define data center system-level architecture, specify/document performance and equipment requirements, create/communicate conceptual designs, and create/maintain project documentation.
•Perform business case analysis to justify project scope and financial position for management review
•Knowledge and experience with large scale power systems.
