Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Supply Technician, the Supply Technician Apprentice is accountable for data entry, product retrieval, and material issuance. This role ensures precise physical receiving, transferring, issuing, and inventory management of National Science Foundation (NSF) materials. The Supply Technician Apprentice will contribute to inventory improvements through recommendations and will provide high-quality customer service to both internal and external clients.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Prioritizes safety and ensures adherence to workplace safety standards.
2. Adheres to Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management, and Quality Assurance requirements, policies, and procedures.
3. Accurately processes inventory transactions efficiently to maintain accurate and up-to-date materials records, including inventory issues, returns, transfers, and other related changes.
4. Physically receives, stores, and documents materials to support departmental operations, providing forklift support as needed.
5. Conducts physical inventories and ensures stock is accurately maintained.
6. Builds and strengthens professional relationships with customers and coworkers to foster effective collaboration.
7. Accurately prepares, documents, and processes incoming and outgoing materials with accuracy, ensuring proper handling for outbound shipments.
8. Inspects received items for discrepancies such as damages, overages, shortages, or wrong items, and reports WODS (wrong, overage, damaged, or short) findings.
9. Utilizes the ERP system for material research, data entry, corrections, and stock information management, ensuring accurate operations and effective determination of locations and stock levels.
10. Maintains a clean, organized warehouse and Outside Storage Area (OSA) through general housekeeping practices.
11. Cross-trains with other departments within Transportation and Logistics, including operation of heavy equipment and oversized tundra vehicles.
12. Trains in vessel offload procedures and processes. May be assigned to various roles or shifts in a 24-hr period during vessel offload or other special operations while deployed.
13. Completes annual training in light vehicle operation, forklift use, and inventory management systems during deployment.
14. Assists with runway operations during seasonal transitions and ongoing winter flights.
15. Performs additional duties as assigned by Supply department management, including outdoor work in varying temperatures.
Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:
1. High School diploma or GED.
2. Minimum zero to six months of equivalent experience in inventory materials management, warehousing, purchasing, cargo/transportation, supply chain, or logistics, including the use of forklifts, hand trucks, or other powered and non-powered lifting devices.

Preferred:
1. Familiarity and capability to identify commodities in a specific functional or trades group area: Medical/Dental; Construction/Residential Repair; Automotive/Heavy & Industrial Equipment; Science/Lab Support; Food/Beverage/Retail; Office/Hotel/Janitorial Supplies; Electrical/Plumbing/Utilities/Carpentry/Fire Safety; Information Technology/Communications Supplies.
2. Working knowledge of materials movement, purchasing, inventory, and hazardous materials.
3. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
4. IBM Maximo experience.
5. Experience with remote site logistics is highly desirable; experience with polar logistics operations is preferred.
Physical and/or Other Requirements:
1. Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
2. Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica.
3. Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer.
4. Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF.
5. Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
6. Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
7. Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
8. Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States.
9. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
