The primary responsibility for the Estimate Specialist will be to prepare estimates and proposals for Client’s RFQs and to provide Baseline Estimates to new Projects. Some jobs will be engineering only estimates, some will be fabrication only estimates, and some will be design-build estimates. The estimates are for industrial modular skids and systems, and the systems have a great deal of steel and piping as part of their basis. The estimates are prepared for a wide range of industry sectors (D&I – can manufacturing, biogas, oil & gas, refineries, petrochem, etc). The Estimator will work closely with business development, engineering, procurement, and design team for the estimates.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist Business Development in developing estimates and schedule for proposals; presenting proposals to existing and potential customers;Prepares all proposal documents for all RFQs (proposal, estimate, schedule, clarifications & exceptions, etc).Gathers RFQ and proposal documents, and reads and understands the client’s RFQ specifications completely; including bill of materials (BOMs) and drawings. Estimator must fully understand the scope of the RFQ and prepare the Roeslein estimate and proposal to meet it.Assist Project Managers responsible for customer management and communication, including change orders, engineering details, invoicing, and project schedule updates.Identifies material requirements (steel, piping, instrumentation and electrical) by studying the proposals and reviewing BOMs and drawings.If BOMs are not provided, professional shall prepare BOMs by preparing take-offs; sometimes with the help of other designers.Identifies labor requirements and estimates for fabrication at Roeslein facilities by studying the proposals and reviewing or preparing those labor estimates with manufacturing personnel.Sometimes construction costs must also be analyzed and prepared for Roeslein to install modules at site.Work closely with purchasing to obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price. Consider what final pricing should be used for estimate build-out.Maintains a log of clarifications and exceptions as discussed between Roeslein and the client.Provides estimated cost and labor hours for the development of preliminary engineering and fabrication milestone schedules for proposals.Maintains material and commodities cost database by entering, tracking, and backing up data.Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.Travel domestically and internationally up to 10% per year, usually in one week durations.Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.Perform other duties as assigned.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed in an office environment. In addition, the ability to lift and carry 10 pounds (5 kg) regularly is required.KNOWLEDGE / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree in an industry-related field, such as engineering, business administration, project management or construction management,Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in a technically related field is required.Applicable experience estimating mechanical assembly/erection (piping and steel structure) is strongly preferred.OTHER DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:Specific estimating skills for engineering, construction management, and mechanical and electrical construction services.Working knowledge of contract laws, jobsite safety procedures, and purchasing practices.Working knowledge of common scheduling concepts such as CPM, PERT, Gantt charts, resource loading, etc.; skill in the use of Roeslein's scheduling software tools and must be able to create schedule reports for all audiences.Ability to acquire a working knowledge of Roeslein’s cost accounting system, gross profit targets, standards, policies, procedures, and general business philosophies.Cost background including operations budget development, cost control, and capital spending justification is strongly preferred.Must be able to understand and set priorities.Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and excellent presentation skills are required.Must be able to interact effectively and diplomatically with a number of diverse people, both on an individual basis as well as within group situations.Exceptional attention to detail.Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
