**ROLE PURPOSE**
The Naval Architecture Manager is responsible for maintaining and developing discipline team skill sets and allocating resources to ensure deliverables related to Living Quarters, Hull Design and Weight Control are completed per budget, schedule, quality and safety requirements.
You take ownership of the overall quality and performance of the work performed by the Naval Architecture discipline.
You take ownership of engineering and design activities within the Discipline.
In your role, you manage uncertainty and provide guidance to the team in order that designs are properly executed and risk is managed to reduce the negative impact on the overall project.
**ROLE CONTRIBUTION**
**In order that proper resources are allocated to all projects in the Regional Center (RC), YOU ARE TO**:
- Develop a staffing plan by coordinating with Engineering Project Manager and Discipline Leads to define the manpower requirements; provide qualified resources to meet the staffing plan
- Manage staffing plan to suit current and future workload needs and proactively resolve any resource gaps through effective networking with other disciplines, other RC's and third party engineering sub-contractors; Ensure alignment with Department Manager
- Ensure proper lines of communication with the Department Manager, Engineering Project Manager and Discipline Lead to determine project priorities
**To ensure staff is adequately skilled to achieve deliverables, YOU ARE TO**:
- Understand project requirements; manage Engineering Project Manager and Discipline Lead expectations of staff capabilities
- Ensure the team is provided with sufficient growth opportunities and proper training in relevant areas aligned with current and future business needs
- Provide coaching and mentoring to staff.
Implement development action plans.
Engage in effective retention efforts.
Provide a highly motivated working environment for the team.
- Proactively address performance issues and partner with HR as necessary to ensure continuous performance improvement in the team
- Promote the development of internal tools in order to improve efficiencies and skillsets of staff
- To ensure the safety and quality of engineering deliverables, YOU ARE TO:
- Provide clear expectations and goals for the Discipline regarding quality standards and enforce safety requirements to meet project needs, corporate standards, and industry regulations
- Ensure the sharing and implementation of lessons learned from past projects 3.3.
Provide guidance in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues as needed 3.4.
Interface regularly with the Engineering Project Manager and Discipline Lead to maintain project progress and ensure the quality of engineering designs
- Conduct technical audits and qualification of third-party engineering sub-contractors
- In order that you maintain effective control of the discipline budget, YOU ARE TO:
- Monitor utilization rates and take proactive actions to maximize the productivity of resources
- Coordinate with counterparts and utilize the network to identify mutually beneficial opportunities with regard to staffing needs or overages
**REQUIREMENTS**
- Degree in Naval Engineering
- First experience as Team Leader/Manager
- Minimum 10 years of experience on hull integrity inspections and repairs
