The Network Operations Engineer is a member of Fresenius Digital Technology's Global Network Service Team.
The Engineer is responsible for running the network environment in its intended state which includes maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the Fresenius Global Network.
The Engineer also provisions service requests such as firewall changes and other common requests.Key Responsibilities:Incidents, Problems, and Troubleshooting:Provide Tier-2 network troubleshooting and resolution for the following scope of network services: WAN, LAN, WiFi, DNS/DHCP/IPAM, Data Center networks, Internet Access, Remote Access, Site-to-Site VPN, Network Security / Firewalls and data center/CSP connectivity.Escalation support for Network administrators for complex networking issues.Diligently document information in Service-Now related to changes, incidents, problems, and asset/CMDB-related records.Conduct Changes following ITIL-based best practices and ensure that peer engineers' changes do so as well.
This may involve reviewing and approving or rejecting changes.Utilize and participate in the development of network management tools and processes that will be shared with other network engineers across all regions.Proactive Operations Management:Perform Capacity Management tasks, reviewing such items as circuit utilization reports, hardware capacity metrics, etc.
Formulate and implement resolutions to capacity-related issues.Maintain hardware and software currency, including updating devices to the current approved code levels and refreshing out-of-support hardware to current approved models.
Own the project delivery of such upgrades.Implement routine changes to address compliancy issues as identified by other IT and Security organizations.Assist with development and maintenance of a thorough and accurate AMDB and CMDB.Maintain network drawings and other key references.Manage the privileged access levels for engineers and associated network devices and management tools.Service Management Responsibilities:Should Fresenius decide to hire a 3rd party service provider to manage any part of the network, the engineer will also be responsible for some service-management related functions to be defined later.
This might include review of provider SLA's and performance, execution of policy-based service requests, oversight of service-provider troubleshooting, communications to end users, etc.Job Family Tasks:Operation of complex technologies.Consulting, implementation of technologies and services of medium complexity.Execution of standard process actions of system operations, system support or system development.Execution and/or supervision of the realization of concepts, and installation of operational measures for quality assurance.Responsibility for the specification and transfer of user requirements into reliable working concepts.Second and third-level support in given technological environment.Contribution to preparation of cost estimates for technology-related sub-projects and services of medium complexity.Continuous identification & initiation of service and process improvements in business environments of medium complexity.Collaboration in international business contexts including virtual teams.Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.Effective Representation of the organization to cross-functional stakeholders, clients and external groups.Communication as equal partner with stakeholders even above his/her own level.Builds knowledge of the company, processes and customers.Solves a range of straightforward problems.Secondary Responsibilities:On-call support – participation in a rotation schedule.During local business hours, the Engineer will primarily be responsible for support of sites located within the home region.
However, he/she may also be responsible to support other regions for incidents and problems during those regions' non-business hours (but during the Engineer's business hours).IT services, consulting, & projects for business partners at the respective location.Engineer may participate in some amount of project work, planning and implementing changes as directed by the Project Engineer or Network Architect.Willingness to travel between 0-20% within the home region, and some abroad, international.Required education/professional experience:Any combination of University STEM degree, basic switching/routing cert (e.g.
CCNA), security product cert (Palo Alto), and/or cloud cert – or equivalent experience.At least 5 years of experience in the following:Network administration / operations in a multi-site, multi-national company.Building and supporting LANs, MANs, WANs, VPNs, and remote access solutions in a variety of topologies.Common network troubleshooting and network management tools.Required professional and/or project management competencies:Technical Skills – solid working knowledge in the following technical areas:WAN, MAN, LAN, Internet, Site-to-Site VPN, Client VPN, Internet access, data center networks, cloud service provider connectivity, DMVPN.Layer 2 network protocols.Layer 3 / routing protocols; multicast, QoS.DNS, DHCP, IPAM.Firewalls, network encryption, network access control, segmentation, and other security-related concepts.Basic or intermediate programming skills in Python or other contemporary toolset/language is beneficial.Data protection & IT security.Quality management & Compliance.Additions / Details:Thorough understanding of ITIL-Incident / Problem / Change processes.Skilled in documentation (technical and end-user-friendly).Soft skills : Must possess strong sense of ethics, plus excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Must be able to react professionally under potentially difficult or stressful circumstances.Seniority levelAssociateEmployment typeFull-timeJob functionInformation TechnologyIndustriesPharmaceutical Manufacturing
