Why does the job exist?
Responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide direct resident care to an assigned group of residents during a shift. Responsible for prioritizing the delivery of direct nursing care using time and resources efficiently, integrating a standard based framework model. Provide clinical supervision for non-professional staff.
How does it get done?
Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
Who are the customers?
Residents at a long-term care facility.
Ideal Candidate
Will have:
The ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
The ability to function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Licensure as LPN or LVN, and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check and is conditional pending results. Licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New Mexico. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPPA) training.
Working Conditions
Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses, stations, resident rooms, etc.).
Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
