Job Description:
We are seeking a Wireless Network Administrator I to support operations and maintenance (O&M) of a large, mission-critical network in Diego Garcia. This role involves managing and maintaining Cisco and Aruba wireless network infrastructure in a high-availability, mission-critical environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on experience with both Cisco and Aruba wireless solutions, as well as strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Maintain and administer Cisco and Aruba wireless networks, including configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting.
2. Monitor and analyze wireless network performance to identify and resolve issues.
3. Implement wireless security best practices, including authentication, encryption, and intrusion detection.
4. Perform firmware and software upgrades on wireless controllers, access points, and related equipment.
5. Conduct wireless site surveys to assess coverage and identify optimization opportunities.
6. Troubleshoot wireless connectivity issues and coordinate with other IT teams as needed.
7. Document wireless configurations, network diagrams, and support procedures.
8. Ensure compliance with DoD and Air Force network security standards, including RMF requirements.
9. Develop and maintain wireless network architecture documentation.
10. Assist in network design and expansion projects as needed.
11. Document network configurations, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting procedures to maintain an accurate network topology.
12. Provide technical support to end-users and resolve connectivity issues.
13. Participate in on-call support and respond to network outages as required.
Required Qualifications:
1. Current US Passport
2. Current IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, etc.).
3. 1-3 years of experience managing and supporting Cisco and Aruba wireless networks.
4. Strong understanding of wireless protocols (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax).
5. Proficiency with Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC) and Aruba Mobility Controllers.
6. Experience with network monitoring and management tools.
7. Familiarity with network security principles and DoD compliance standards.
8. Ability to perform wireless site surveys and signal strength analysis.
9. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Enterprise, or Aruba Certified Mobility Associate (ACMA).
2. Experience in a military or DoD IT environment.
3. Experience with Cisco DNA Center and Aruba AirWave for network monitoring and optimization.
4. Knowledge of network segmentation and secure wireless design.
5. Familiarity with 802.1X authentication and RADIUS configurations.
Physical, Work Environment & Conditions:
1. Typical office environment.
2. Must be able to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods.
3. Occasional standing while working in server rooms or at patch panels.
4. Must be able to lift and move moderately heavy equipment (e.g., routers, switches, servers) typically up to 30–50 pounds.
5. Manual Dexterity required for connecting cables, configuring devices, and handling small tools or components.
6. Must be able to view computer screens for long periods.
7. Ability to distinguish color-coded cabling and indicator lights.
8. Must be able to climb ladders or crawl in tight spaces for cable runs or equipment installation.
9. May require walking between different buildings or workstations.
10. Must be able to communicate clearly with technical teams and end-users.
11. May need to hear alarms, server beeps, or equipment noises indicating issues.
