Calling on customers (traders and retail chain stores), taking orders and delivering mainly from vehicle, frequently for cash, and new customer acquisition.Minimum RequirementsGrade 12, valid Driver's License and valid PDP.SkillsAbility to read, write, understand and communicate in English.Good numeracy.ExperienceMin 2 years driving experience working in FMCG.
Experience in delivering and selling FMCG products for cash to existing and new customers.GeneralTo maintain a valid Driver's Licence and valid PDP.Expected to work over weekends and public holidays.Expected to work overtime as required.Expected to be on standby and to come in to assist in the event of driver shortages.Duties & ResponsibilitiesDress and Vehicle DutiesMaintain a clean vehicle to ensure high levels of hygiene standards at all times.Wear and make use of the prescribed PPE clothing and equipment.Ensure driving compartment is clean and safe according to requirements for a work station in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.Check his vehicle according to the checklist specified by the company.Enter any faults onto the checklist.Sign the checklist as acknowledgement of the vehicle condition.Report serious faults to the supervisor and send the vehicle to the workshop immediately.Arrange a replacement vehicle if the repair will take longer than expected.Adhere to the statutory rules of the road, ensuring safety for himself, passengers, and other road users.Immediately report any theft of vehicle, fuel, or equipment, or damage to vehicle to the Logistics Manager.Handle accidents in accordance with company procedures for damage, injuries, and death.Stock and LoadingCheck that the actual stock loaded matches the orders placed.Note discrepancies and bring them to the immediate attention of the Route Controller.Sign acceptance of the stock once satisfied that the load is accurate.Check the number of crates on load and sign an acknowledgment of the amount that must be returned.Ensure the vehicle is safely loaded to maintain road safety.Inspect the quality of stock being loaded and report any problems immediately.If necessary, inform the customer about substandard stock before delivery.Assist with loading as required.Van AssistantsTake responsibility for and supervise the van assistant.Ensure the van assistant is present at work and arrange a replacement if not.Ensure the van assistant is presentable and deals with customers appropriately.Train and coach the van assistant to meet company standards.Report performance issues with the van assistant to the Route Controller/Supervisor.Create a harmonious working relationship with the van assistant.Sales and CustomersBe friendly, helpful, and respectful towards customers.Look for opportunities to increase daily sales by gaining more customers.Report potential new sales areas to the supervisor and sales manager.Report any customer losses and attempt to win back the customer.Report issues affecting service levels to the supervisor.Liaise with customers weekly to maintain service levels.Implement promotions with customers as required.DeliveriesEnsure stock delivered matches the customer's order.Be aware of stock levels to ensure all customers receive their order.Make arrangements for replenishment of stock if sales exceed available amounts.Apologize to customers for any short deliveries.Secure orders for the next day's delivery and provide them to the sales department.Ensure all crates delivered are returned on the same day.Deliver or collect other items/products as needed.Perform crate recovery to monitor and minimize crate losses.Transactional DutiesSecure and safeguard cash, paperwork, and company stock.Deposit cash in the vehicle safe immediately upon receipt.Be vigilant regarding counterfeit notes or fraudulent activities.Take necessary precautions to avoid robbery attempts.Accurately complete and handle transactional documentation.Record route data accurately.Sell bread at the authorized price.Complete cash-ups with the supervisor upon return from a route.Drop cash immediately to minimize company risk.Investigate any shortages within 24 hours.Product/Service Competitor AnalysisCollect competitor product information.Obtain competitor products.GeneralAssist in any aspect of the business as required, including performing duties of van assistant or loader.Comply with health and safety standards.Report health issues that could affect driving ability to the supervisor.
