Why does the job exist?
Responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide direct resident care to an assigned group of residents during a shift. Responsible for prioritizing the delivery of direct nursing care using time and resources efficiently, integrating a standard based framework model. Provide clinical supervision for non-professional staff.
How does it get done?
1. Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
2. Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
3. Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
4. Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
5. Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
Who are the customers?
Residents at a long-term care facility.
Ideal Candidate
Will have:
1. The ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
2. The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
3. Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
4. The ability to function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico, or a Graduate Nurse with a permit-to-practice.

This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Working Conditions
Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the nursing service area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses' stations, resident rooms, etc.). Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for the residents' needs. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
